• How to stay grounded this fall

There is a cool breeze in the air and the trees are letting their leaves go. Fireplaces are being used again, pumpkin is on the menu and parents are searching if kid’s winter coats still fit. Fall is in full gear!  In the yogi world: we refer to fall as Vata season.  Vata is one of the three doshas, which are components of ayurvedic medicine. Doshas used to identify individuals based on different physical, emotional and mental aspects of life. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the oldest forms of holistic medicine that is based on the five elements of the earth: space, water, earth, air and fire (I feel like…

  • I’m back.

Hi. It’s been awhile but I’m back to share my journey of a building a healthy life.  I took a bit of a break, well a year long break to be exact from posting on my blog. Why you may ask?  I needed to prioritize.  Long story short, we had both girls doing school at home for the majority of the school year. We chose to have me go down to working 3 days a week at my corporate job while bringing in Grandma’s and hiring a tutor for my work days. Financially we could do all of these things because of our simple lifestyle along with aggressive debt pay…

  • Life with less meat and more veggies

Remember when I shared my new year resolution to have life with less meat through mostly pescatarian eating? That feels like years ago now as 2020 has turned into feeling like a decade. But, it was just 9 months ago that I decided to focus on pescatarian eating and have a life with less meat. This resolution was similar to last year where we were going to try and eat vegetarian for a few meals a week. However this year we figured we would change it up a bit to be mostly pescatarian. This means that we eat seafood + vegetarian. So eggs, dairy, and fish are all fair game.…

    Fall Reset

Fall is here so I am ready for a fall reset! My home is full of school supplies for distance learning, pumpkin lattes are part of my life again and the weather is cooling down.  And best of all, soup season is coming (or already here in my household)! With all things fall coming into my life, I am ready for a fall reset. Fall is a time of transition, which makes it the perfect time for a reset. I enjoy resetting my goals with each change of season. Fall is one of the best times for this because there is large transitions of school and activities starting (granted, they…

  • My review of the 5 day summer detox I did

I wanted to share my review of the 5 day summer detox that I just completed. I hadn’t done a detox (or cleanse) this long before so I didn’t know what I was in for. My longest I did previously was a 3 day kitchari cleanse and that almost seemed too long. I was almost nervous about this 5 day one…was I going to be able to do it? Would I cave and eat the chocolate, have the glass of wine or eat the cheese? Spoiler Alert: I completed it. I am happy to say that I successfully completed the 5 day detox. It wasn’t easy though as I had…

  • Making meditation a daily routine

Meditation is much more trendy these days and is becoming part of people’s daily routines. Meditation has so many great benefits that were over looked for a long time. People would say it meditation is “weird.” However what once was just part of a yoga practice, is now part of many people’s daily routines. There are now mediation apps with millions of downloads to help people meditate. I even found myself downloading one to see what all the fuss is about. So what makes meditation so great? Well there are many health benefits for meditation, like ones listed in this article. Some of my favorite benefits of meditation are: Reduces…

  • Self care to show yourself some love

Since this week is one to celebrate love, instead of only focusing on loving others, let’s focus on loving ourselves. Self care is a great way to show some love to yourself. It doesn’t need to be anything big, just little things you can do throughout your day. These can go a long way in your mood and well-being. It can be something as simple as sitting and breathing. Here are a few of my favorite things I do for self care: Journal. Taking time to write down your thoughts each day, morning or night, is a great way to clear your mind. This can help you feel more mindful…

  • My 2 year plan in pursuit of an Ironman finish

After finishing an epic year of running with my first 100 mile finish, I decided to take some time off from serious structured training. I still exercised regularly and with some structure but based it more on what I felt doing that day rather than following a strict training planning. During this time, I thought about what my next challenge should be. My M.O. for years has been to continually challenging myself in order to stay motivated and so I always have a new goal to pursue. After checking another milestone off the list with the Savage 100 mile run in October, I needed my next challenge. The Ironman distance…

  • 5 tips for busy moms to get a healthy dinner on the table

I want to share my top five tips for how busy moms can get a healthy dinner on the table for their family each evening. One of the largest challenges as a busy mom is getting a healthy meal on the table for dinner. I’ve been doing trial and error over the years of my wellness journey to figure out what works best for this. And over the years, I’ve developed some habits that have really helped me eat a healthy dinner no matter what gets thrown my way during the day. For example, I was cutting up some sweet potatoes at about 8:30 p.m. and not because I was…

  • Kitchari Cleanse Review

I wanted to do a cleanse or detox of sorts after the new year to reset my body after all of the indulging over the holidays. I am not one to do a juice cleanse or anything so I was looking for something different. Being part of the yogi world, I knew the Ayurvedic diet has shown that that Kitchari has been proven to cleanse the body. So after a few Google searches later, I was able to find a three day Kitchari cleanse that looked just like what I needed. I figured you can do anything for three days right? What is a Kitchari Cleanse you may be asking?…
