It may not feel like it in MN (where I live), but spring is only a few weeks away! As spring starts to approach, many of us start to spring clean our homes. Today I wanted to talk about spring cleaning our skincare products (for men and women). With all of the knowledge these days about potentially harmful chemicals that could be in skincare products, I wanted to share how to clean them up with safer skincare products!
*stepping on my soapbox*
As I’ve stated before on the blog, I am a safer skincare advocate (i.e. I am a consultant for Beautycounter). Being part of Beautycounter allows me to be supported with education, advocacy and high performing safer products to share with the world. Beautycounter’s mission:
What I love about their mission is that they aren’t saying “their” products. They truly are trying to advocate for change in the skincare industry that pushes for stricter regulations against the beauty industry. Here are a few facts I didn’t know about the beauty and skincare industry until a friend told me:
- There hasn’t been a law passed in the beauty industry since 1938
- 85% of ingredients in beauty products have never been tested
- The US only partially bans 30 chemicals whereas Europe bans 1,400
Now I’m not trying to say that all companies are trying to intentionally hurt you. There are many companies out there that are providing safe products. I am just trying to spread awareness of the facts about the beauty industry’s lack of regulations and how safer ingredients don’t always end up in the products on the shelves. *stepping off my soapbox*
As a mom of girls, safer beauty products is important to me because my girls will likely grow up to use make-up, skincare products and lotions that could have questionable ingredients. Therefore, I joined this movement for better beauty for everyone, especially for my girls. Beautycounter is not only creating safer products, they are also in Washington advocating for change and more regulation in the industry, which is something I can get on board with.
If you want to get on board with this movement, join me. Right now Beautycounter has reduced their sign-up fee to be a consultant by half from $98 to $49 when you purchase a starter kit (valid March 1-7, 2019)! With that fee, you get access to all of their education videos, support from a great team, 25% discount on all product purchases, two free gifts when you sign up, and best of all, you get to work with me :). Here is the link if you are interested in joining: Join now.
If you don’t want to join the movement as a consultant but want to check out their products, here is their website: Beautycounter
Some of my favorite products are:
By no means do I pretend to be perfect in using safer products or feel that I have it all figured out. We have been slowly cleaning up our products over the years and continue to do so. As I continue to learn more, I continue to evolve. If you want to clean up your skincare products this spring and don’t know where to start, a few of the biggest offender products are shampoos/conditioners, lotions and mascaras.
