• Life with less meat and more veggies

Remember when I shared my new year resolution to have life with less meat through mostly pescatarian eating? That feels like years ago now as 2020 has turned into feeling like a decade. But, it was just 9 months ago that I decided to focus on pescatarian eating and have a life with less meat. This resolution was similar to last year where we were going to try and eat vegetarian for a few meals a week. However this year we figured we would change it up a bit to be mostly pescatarian. This means that we eat seafood + vegetarian. So eggs, dairy, and fish are all fair game.…

  • Staying on track during the holidays

It’s always hard to stay on track during the holidays. During the holiday season, there are parties to attend, happy hours and social gatherings, cookie baking parties and so much more that give constant temptations during the holidays.  If you are like me, you may have a sweet tooth and can’t say no to all of the yummy treats around and you may love socializing so you are happy to attend parties where you usually partake in the drinks (alcohol included of course).   Also if you are like me, you may be trying to build and maintain healthy lifestyle habits.  During the holiday season, I used to put my goals…

  • What I prioritize in wellness

Wellness can mean so many different things, so you really have to prioritize on what is important to you. Wellness can be anything from eating healthy, exercising, mindfulness, healthy finances, balancing work and life, and so much more. I write about many of these on the blog but I really have to prioritize wellness focus areas. There are two areas that I’ve been focusing on as of late for wellness in my life. These wellness areas are mindfulness and eating healthy. I am still working on the other wellness areas but there aren’t my main focus right now. My first focus area is on eating healthy. If you’ve been following…

  • Things I learned this summer

I didn’t write much in the blog this summer. I had good intentions where I started writing but then never completed anything. Our summer was very full with traveling out of state (work and play), numerous cabin trips, my first go at yoga teaching sessions, a sick dog, and house repairs. I am not writing it as an excuse, as I chose not to do it. Throughout our full summer, I learned a few things that I wanted to share as we transition into fall. It’s ok to say “no.” We were definitely busy this summer but I had the options to do more (like blog writing) but I chose…

  • How I am trying to be more present in life

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted for a few weeks. And before that, I wasn’t posting as much as I had when I started this blog months ago. I was starting to realize that my life was becoming a bit consumed by the blog since I was posting three times a week. Since I have a full time job, a side gig of safer skincare consultant, and was just finishing up my yoga teacher training program, I decided to give myself a break. I’ve learned many things in my yoga teacher training but one thing for sure is that it is important to be present in the moments…

  • Planting a simple garden

I will be the first to admit, I do not have a green thumb by any means. I’ve been successful at killing many plants because I forget to do things like water them. So why would you even read this post from me then? Well, assuming you may have similar issues, hopefully the things I do can be helpful to planting your own garden, even if it is just a simple potted vegetable garden. As I have switched my eating habits over the past ten years, I’ve had more desire to have a vegetable garden because what’s more local than your own yard? I am to the point where I…

  • How we stay active as a family

Before kids, it was much easier for us to be active. Now that we have kids, we really have to plan and prioritize our workouts. This is especially true because we both have large goals we are working towards: I am training to be a yoga teacher and Ryan is training for a marathon (well technically a 100 mile run). Being active isn’t only important to us as individuals but is also important for our healthy family lifestyle. We want our girls to enjoy being active and build it into their life skills and habits. Therefore, we are always trying to find activities that things to do that get them…

  • 5 strategies to stay on track when life gets stressful

I recently shared about how I got so busy, it became rather stressful. When things get stressful, it can be difficult to stay on track with healthy eating and exercise. I’ve now found some good strategies that keep me on track (for the most part) that I wanted to share today as I used several of these recently when I was overloaded. 1.Turn to exercise, not food to reduce stress. If I rewind back to my overweight days, I would have met stress head on with a pint of ice cream and alcohol. I still have my moments, but now I focus on exercising when I need to de-stress. I…

  • Being busy sucks

So let’s be real here…..being busy sucks. Our society thinks being busy is a badge of honor and it supposedly makes people seem to lead important lives because they have so much to do. It seems that the more busy you are, the more you are admired and thought of as an important person. This seems backwards because being busy actually sucks. It isn’t something we should be proud of and isn’t something we should honor in our society because it leads to people always saying yes to everything, feeling like they need to accomplish everything and do everything which leads to being stressed and burnt out. I know this…

  • How we enjoy California wine country

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this much on the blog yet but Ryan and I are huge fans of wine. This has love has developed over time and increased in affection for me especially as the years have gone by. I used to be all about red wine but now I have realized that white wine has a place in my life; heck even a rosé has a time and a place 🙂 . With our love of wine, we have made a handful of trips (5 to be exact) to the Napa/Sonoma areas of California. On the first trip we went to all of the “touristy” wineries and…
