Self care to show yourself some love

Since this week is one to celebrate love, instead of only focusing on loving others, let’s focus on loving ourselves. Self care is a great way to show some love to yourself. It doesn’t need to be anything big, just little things you can do throughout your day. These can go a long way in your mood and well-being. It can be something as simple as sitting and breathing.

Here are a few of my favorite things I do for self care:

  1. Journal. Taking time to write down your thoughts each day, morning or night, is a great way to clear your mind. This can help you feel more mindful throughout the day because your brain isn’t full of “all of the things” to think about, worry about, etc. I’ve been part of a book club for The Artists Way. Part of the book is writing “morning pages” just to get your thoughts out on the page to help make more space for creativity in your brain.
  2. Move your body. This doesn’t need to be anything extravagant. I’m talking going for a walk, maybe taking a class at gym you’ve been wanting to, or my favorite, practicing yoga. Getting in some movement is a great way to show yourself some self care as it can help lift you up physically AND mentally.
  3. Rest. The opposite of moving, just take a rest. This may be taking a nap or just sitting by yourself in silence, or maybe meditating. I try and fit in meditation into my daily routine and will take a nap on the weekend when I feel like I need it. I will also try not to feel guilty about sitting and resting a bit. There is always something that needs to be done but sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself and your family, is just to rest.
  4. Go outside. Fresh air goes a long way. One of my favorite things to do (once it is above 40 degrees) is to go on morning walks. It’s great to take in the outdoors when it is still rather silent and calm, before the world is up and running.
  5. Home spa. If I want to pamper myself without spending a huge amount of money on something like a facial, I will do a home spa with my charcoal mask or my overnight peel. These products make it seem like you are getting to go to a spa without the price tag. Another small thing that I do is just to be sure to do my skincare regimen. A regimen includes cleansing, prepping, treating and protecting my skin and feels great while keeping skin healthy. If you’re interested in finding your own skincare regimen, you can find some safer skincare regimens here. And BONUS they have a free gift with regimen purchases for a limited time).

None of these things are extravagant but self care doesn’t need to be. Just doing anything for yourself can go a long way for your well being. So this Valentine’s show yourself some love through self care.
