Hi. It’s been awhile but I’m back to share my journey of a building a healthy life.
I took a bit of a break, well a year long break to be exact from posting on my blog. Why you may ask?
I needed to prioritize.
Long story short, we had both girls doing school at home for the majority of the school year. We chose to have me go down to working 3 days a week at my corporate job while bringing in Grandma’s and hiring a tutor for my work days. Financially we could do all of these things because of our simple lifestyle along with aggressive debt pay downs.
With so much going on, I needed to take a few things off my plate and one of those was my blog because we were in survival mode. But we made it through thanks to all of our help and now the girls are back in their schools.
I could have just closed down my website and moved on with my life.
I mean, it’s been a year and I don’t know if my readers will join me again but I gave it a lot of thought and decided I wanted to continue because I started this blog for a reason and that reason still holds true: the internet needs more authentic voices out there and people to not just show the highlight reels of their lives but to show the struggles and challenges and hopefully how they overcame them.
The purpose of my blog was to share my journey of a healthy life in hopes of inspiring others.
A journey I have been working on for almost 14 years now. As a reminder, I was about 90lbs heavier than I am now back then. And losing weight was HARD but you know what is even harder that people probably don’t want to hear?….KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF! Maintaining your weight once you have lost it is so flipping hard! Did you know that only about 10% of people who lose weight keep it off?
That seems totally nuts until you really think about it. Life gets busy and stressful and you know what the first things that fall off priority lists: cooking healthy meals at home, exercising, etc. Think about these last 18 months…how many people do you know that lost weight? Most people I know are talking about how they drink more and eat more chips and ice cream (and no, I’m not just talking about myself).
So in the spirit of being more real on the internet, know that this year has been hard.
I gained weight (5-7lbs) probably from my increased wine and ice cream consumption. Through the stress of these past 18 months, I built bad habits and I’ve been slowly working to unlearn these bad habits. Like all things, this will take time but I am hoping to share this journey again with all of you.
