I love breakfast, it is my favorite meal. Actually brunch is my favorite but I don’t get a chance to partake in that meal much anymore with work and kids so now breakfast is where it’s at :). Breakfast has become my most important meal of the day, and not just because it’s my favorite. Many studies have shown that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. These studies usually claim similar reasons as I do on why breakfast is so important: It gives me energy for the day. I don’t like to run on empty (although I will admit that other studies have shown the benefits of…

Spring clean your skincare routine
It may not feel like it in MN (where I live), but spring is only a few weeks away! As spring starts to approach, many of us start to spring clean our homes. Today I wanted to talk about spring cleaning our skincare products (for men and women). With all of the knowledge these days about potentially harmful chemicals that could be in skincare products, I wanted to share how to clean them up with safer skincare products! *stepping on my soapbox* As I’ve stated before on the blog, I am a safer skincare advocate (i.e. I am a consultant for Beautycounter). Being part of Beautycounter allows me to be…

Yoga is my jam
So I know I have an entire page dedicated to yoga including my journey on how I started practicing and how it has brought me to training to be a yoga teacher. In case you haven’t noticed, I love yoga. Yoga is my jam. This past weekend, I continued my yoga teacher training journey. I was looking forward to the weekend because I needed a reset. February was getting to me with all the snow which made for long commutes, many days inside, and school closing days. February also included busy work days with traveling. These things combined left me less motivated for practicing yoga: I lost my mojo this…

Finding my goal weight
With losing weight, you usually have a number in mind that is your “goal” weight. This number may change throughout the years (as it has for me) but there is usually always some magical number you have in your head where it is your “ideal” weight. Although, when I started out losing weight, I didn’t have a number in mind. I just knew that I weighed too much because I was having to buy larger and larger clothes and was low energy every day. I would be out of breath doing everyday things like walking up the stairs. I knew I needed to lose weight but didn’t have a “goal”…

Making time for our relationship
This is a holiday weekend for many folks including myself and my husband since we have Monday off for President’s day. We didn’t plan anything special for this weekend and just did our usual weekend things of a Friday night Target run, Saturday library visit, and outdoor play in the snow. We were lucky to have my parents offer to take our girls for Sunday through Monday so that Ryan and I could get some things done around the house and have some adult time. Having time with your spouse without having to worry about the kids is very important to us because it helps our relationship stay healthy. With…

My “always” post
Last Friday I wrote a “lately” post that gives tidbits about things that have been happening lately. I ended with a note about hating laundry but then joked that I always hate laundry. So I decided that I should do an “always” post. It’s like a “lately” post but instead about stuff that’s “always” happening. So here it goes…. I always have a water bottle nearby. After being pregnant and breastfeeding two babies, I was so thirsty all of the time so I got into a habit of always having a water bottle nearby. This habit stuck with me post babies now. I can’t even drive anywhere without having a…

How calorie counting helped me lose 90lbs
Counting calories has become a taboo subject on the internet and amongst the wellness world. It used to be praised as a great way for weight loss but now is seen as the incorrect strategy for weight loss because it doesn’t work for everyone and because not all calories are created equal in everyone’s bodies. There are many blogs, articles and podcasts that say you should focus on macro nutrients or intermittent fasting or a number of other diet strategies. Let’s be real here though..no weight loss strategy or diet is going to work for EVERYONE. You have to find what works best for you and your body. It may…

How I entertain my kids when it is snowy and freezing
Since the majority of my readers at the moment are MN folks (I’m sure I’ll be nationally known soon 😉 ) who are dealing with the same winter I am, I figured I would share a few of my ideas of how I entertain my 4 yr old and 18 month old in this weather because let’s face it, winters are long and cabin fever is running high this time of year. And maybe your kids are like mine where they’ve pulled out every toy they have like they are on a mission to make the largest mess yet still act like they have cabin fever… Here is a list…

My version of a “lately” post
If you follow other blogs, you have probably read posts that have the subject of “lately” which basically lists what’s been going on in the blogger’s life lately and/or what products or things they are liking “lately.” Well this post is my version of “lately.” Here it goes…. Lately, it has been snowing so much that I forgot what it’s like not to take a ridiculous amount of time commuting and not worry that you may have to pay the late fee at daycare because they are going to close. Lately, I forgot that it was pajama day at my older daughter’s school so I let her wear pjs the…

Work/life balance as a mom
I know most of my blog thus far has focused on healthy family living through exercise, meal planning, finance and safer products. While these things are a huge passion of mine, it isn’t my day job. My day job is a leader at a marketing analytics firm; totally the opposite of all of those things. I haven’t mentioned it much on here because I don’t think it is that interesting to people because my job itself it isn’t very relatable (however if you want to know more about how to build a statistical model to measure the impact of advertising though, reach out 😉 ). What is more likely to…
